Journalists not doing their research!
Anyone living in Montreal’s west-island and the western suburbs of Vaudreuil-Soulanges has surely heard about the recent announcements that the government has officially approved a $22 million study on building the much needed “train de l’ouest”. In all the recent press conferences about it, the local journalists have been all atwitter about how there was no mention of the train west of Ste Anne de Bellevue. Fear. Panic. Oh my goodness they have foresaken us. Not one of the local papers I have read appears to have a journalist on staff who does adequate research. If...
Read MoreTrain info to downtown for Pincourt/Ile Perrot
I noticed that several readers have found this Pincourt / Ile Perrot blog when searching for train schedule information. I thought I would help provide some links here for public transit related info. If you haven’t yet tried the public-transit feature in Google Maps “Get Directions” … it’s worth checking it out. A while ago the AMT and STM agreed to let Google Maps integrate with the schedules, click here for options on getting from the Pincourt & Ile Perrot to the Eaton Center, downtown Montreal View Larger Map If you are looking for the commuter train...

as part of our support for Open Government (or Gov 2.0, whichever trendy name you prefer), here is a link provided by the excellent website, openparliament.ca: MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges (Québec) http://openparliament.ca/politicians/meili-faille/ This link is not meant to endorse a political party or view – it is here to spread the word that citizens are watching and actively engaging in what our MPs, and by extension OUR VOTES, are up to. Here is a screenshot of what you will...
Read Morecity council on your phone?
Further to my earlier blog posts about streaming city council meetings, I have another question to ask: Do you want city council meetings, live or on-demand, on your phone? The reason I ask is that the webteam has signed up to participate in a webinar held by a US-based company, Granicus, that touts streaming of city council to mobile devices. I personally am not sold on the idea, but am allowing myself to be won over. They are a potential supplier for the island video project – we’ll hear out what they are selling, compared to the other options on the market, then...
Read Moresnow removal kudos
A quick post to give a thumbs-up on snow removal to the City of Pincourt and to Syljack, our personal snow-removal contractor. Prompt, efficient, gets job done. I have noticed in many (not all) places, the city plow goes that extra step to reduce the “driveway wall of snow” that plagues many homeowners. As for Syljack, in our neck of the woods they are typically the first ones out and are doing their second round before noon. Excellent. Have yet to wake up to, or come home to, a mountain of snow to remove. Same cannot be said for others on my street with Syljack...
Read Morewest island train saga
You might have heard that yesterday, the Quebec provincial government teased the communities of Montreal’s west-island with the hopes of improved rail service. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see reliable and frequent commuter rail going to Dorion, Vaudreuil, St Lazare and further west, forgive me if I am cynical of it. The AMT has now approved a total of approx $100 million dollars for studies, design and preliminary planning. (yesterday’s $22 million was an engineering study. a previous $77million was allocated for Turcot reconstruction improvements) Some have...
